Start-Up USA Entrepreneurs
Juan Pollo
Juan Pollo (Papo) is a young man with a developmental disability. After graduating from high school, Papo, with the help of his family, developed a Live Bait Vending business in Florida based on his life long experiences of fishing with his father and brothers. Initially, his parents purchased one vending machine. They negotiated an ideal location in a local Bass Pro, Inc. retail store to test his potential business ownership and the viability of his business idea. The business exceeded their expectations and quickly became a profitable investment.
From that experience, Papo and his family then developed a business plan and requested startup support from Florida VR. VR provided funds for additional vending machines and supplies. However, the business was struggling and could not survive its cash flow problems since VR did not provide direct cash. Griffin-Hammis Associates then helped Papo to organize his accounting systems, develop strategies to reduce his Cost of Goods Sold, increase his profit margins and acquire operating capital through the a SSA PASS that provided over $18,000 of operating capital. Papo's business is becoming more profitable each year and now has a solid base of operating capital as it moves forward.
